This talk will describe how NY Creates is working to establish a 300-mm “quantum foundry” that democratizes access to high performance, repeatable devices.  The foundry incorporates a long series of processes tailored to quantum-device requirements. The presentation highlights R&D on superconducting materials stacks based on Ta, Nb, and Al, along with their oxides and nitrides. Challenges in reformulating conventional processes for quantum technologies will be discussed. Representative examples illustrate how advanced 300-mm tool capabilities, in-situ monitoring, and wafer-scale metrology are used to control thin-film properties and correlate materials metrics to device-relevant outcomes. The talk concludes with our perspectives on how a Superconducting Quantum Process Design Kit (SQPDK) can accelerate advances by partners across academia, national labs, and industry.

Participation in a local AVS chapter provides an excellent opportunity to interact in a smaller venue compared to the larger national conferences, affording the participants time to focus on presentations of scientific work that is happening in our immediate geographic proximity, along with ample time for professional networking.

The local chapter meetings are an ideal setting for students and early career researchers and professionals to present their research. Therefore, student participation is strongly encouraged. Established professionals are also welcome to submit abstracts, which could include recent studies, or provide overviews of topics of general scientific interest to the society and chapter members.

Registration is required, but free and open to non-AVS members. Pizza and refreshments will be provided at about 5:30 pm. At the end of the meeting, awards will be given for the best student oral and poster presentation(s). The student award winner(s) will receive a cash award, be given an award certificate, and be publicized in the AVS Newsletter.

As demand for more powerful microelectronic devices continues to rise, new atomic layer processing technologies are needed to keep pace with shrinking dimensions and increasingly complex device architectures. Thermal budget has become a limiting constraint, as 3D integration and temperature-sensitive substrates leave little room for conventional high-temperature deposition and etching. In this talk, I will present results from CU Boulder’s electron-enhanced atomic-scale processing, in which low-energy electrons replace thermal energy to drive surface reactions below 120 °C. I will cover electron-enhanced atomic layer deposition (EE-ALD), electron-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (EE-CVD), and electron-enhanced chemical vapor etching (EE-CVE), with results for TiN and composition-tunable TiCN; silicon and its oxide, nitride, and carbide; carbon deposition and etching; and ZrO2, among others.

Mentoring is a collaborative learning relationship that proceeds through purposeful stages over time and has the primary goal of helping the mentees gain the skills and knowledge they need to move on in their chosen careers. Although research has shown that effective mentoring is linked to enhanced mentee productivity, self-efficacy, career satisfaction, and is an important predictor of academic success, many mentors receive little to no training. Research Mentor Training (RMT) is a program designed to help research mentors maximize the effectiveness of their mentoring relationships. During this workshop, we will discuss expectations documents, a key component of the RMT curriculum.  We will talk about what they are, what they can/should contain, and how they can be used most effectively in mentoring relationships. There will be small group discussions.

The Liquid Metal Processing and Casting Conference (LMPC) was started by Sandia to disseminate knowledge from the scientific research conducted by our vacuum melt laboratory. The conference is peculiar in that 70% of the attendees are from industry rather than academic sources. The focus is on vacuum induction melting, vacuum arc remelting, and electroslag refining. We are looking to return it to the U.S.to revive vacuum metallurgy interest here among industrial and academic partners.

Participation in a local AVS chapter provides an excellent opportunity to interact in a smaller venue compared to the larger national conferences, affording the participants time to focus on presentations of scientific work that is happening in our immediate geographic proximity, along with ample time for professional networking.

These local chapter meetings are also an ideal setting for students and early career researchers and professionals to present their research. Therefore, student participation is strongly encouraged. At the end of the meeting, awards will be given for the best student oral and poster presentations. The student award winners will receive a cash award, be given an award certificate, and be publicized in the AVS Newsletter. Established professionals are also welcome to submit abstracts, which could include recent studies or provide overviews of topics of general scientific interest to the society and chapter members.

Registration is required, but the meeting is free and open to non-AVS members. Pizza and refreshments will be provided around 5:30 PM.

WINDS is an international workshop designed to explore the fundamental properties of nanoscale heterostructures and potential device applications. The workshop is composed of morning and evening sessions, with afternoons free for ad hoc meetings to encourage extended interaction and discussion. WINDS provides a forum for material, device, and characterization as well as experimental and modeling researchers to interact. This breadth of expertise reflects the technical challenges in developing nanoscale devices and material systems, since every device is a heterostructure of one form or another and the properties of the interfaces often determine the functionality and properties of the nanoscale system.

    Abstract Deadline: July 31, 2026.

As semiconductor devices continue to scale for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing applications, molybdenum is gaining attention as a next-generation material for advanced thin film processes. Its strong conductivity and low resistivity make it a compelling candidate for highly integrated structures where performance, power efficiency, and process reliability are increasingly critical.

This e-Talk will provide an educational overview of molybdenum in semiconductor thin film deposition, including key material properties, process considerations, and the practical challenges associated with stable handling and delivery. The discussion will also address why advanced delivery approaches are important when working with solid source precursors that require careful moisture control and stable process operation.

Participants will gain a technical understanding of how molybdenum can support next-generation semiconductor process requirements, and what factors should be considered when evaluating materials and delivery strategies for advanced deposition environments.
