BRIDGET ROGERS is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and Director of the Undergraduate Program in Materials Science at Vanderbilt University. Her research focuses on surface/interface/film formation, characterization, and microstructure evolution. 

Over the last 5 summers she has shared her expertise working as a Faculty Fellow with the Sensors Directorate of the Air Force Research Labs in Dayton, OH.  Bridget received her Ph.D. (1998) and M.S. (1990) degrees in chemical engineering from Arizona State University while working full time as an engineer in Motorola’s Semiconductor Product Sector.  She started with Motorola in 1984 after receiving her B.S. degree in chemical engineering from the University of Colorado, Boulder.  

Bridget’s work has been recognized with several awards including the 2016 Distingushed Faculty Award from the Vanderbilt University Organization of Black Graduate and Professional Students, 2009 AVS Fellow, 2004 Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE), 2001 NSF Career Award, and 1997 AVS Graduate Research Award. Bridget has been active in the AVS  since 1989 and has held responsibilities at all levels, including local chapter, Division/Group, National-level committees, Board of Directors, and Trustees.  

Her AVS activities begain with  the Arizona local chapter, serving on the executive board (1989-1998), and holding the offices of Chair (1991-1992) and Treasurer (1989-1991).  She has served on the executive committees for the Applied Surface Science and the Vacuum Technology Divisions and chaired the VTD in 2002.  Bridget is currently on the executive committee for Manufacturing Science and Technology Technical Group.  She has chaired the Chapters, Divisions, and Groups Committee, the Short Course Committee, the Membership Committee, and the Professional Leadership Committee.  She served as Trustee from 2019-2021 and chaired the Trustees in 2021.  Bridget was an AVS Director from 2006 to 2009 and in 2008 was the Program Chair of the 55th Annual AVS Symposium.  She has also served as Race Director for the annual 5k run since 2012.
