Recommended Practices – Information for Quality Research, Development, and Manufacturing of Importance to the AVS Community
The purpose of the Recommended Practices Committee (RPC) is to provide procedural, processing, and specification information that facilitates reliable research, development, and manufacturing in areas of importance to the AVS community. The committee acts as the Society's representative in areas of standards and procedural development, develops uniform measurement procedures and specifications where needed, and collects information of importance to the community.
Responsibilities include the collection and dissemination of relevant information to the AVS membership, the development of recommended practices and procedures as needed, and the maintenance of liaison with national and international standards organizations. The RPC has drafted many peer-reviewed publications documenting the recommended operation and procedures for various applications, mostly published in the Journal of Vacuum Science and Technology A or B.
The AVS RPC represents the USA (ANSI/ASTM) in the following national/international committees:
- ISO/TC 201: Surface chemical analysis
- ISO/TC 112: Vacuum technology
- ASTM E-42: Committee on Surface Analysis
Much of the effort of the committee has focused on data reliability for surface analysis, vacuum, and equipment technology
Data Reproducibility — Topics related to the collection, analysis, and publication/reporting of reliable surface analysis and other data.
Vacuum and Equipment Technology — Topics related to vacuum and processing equipment design, operation, and maintenance.
