Dr. Naihao Chiang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Houston. His research group focuses on understanding and controlling chemical and physical phenomena at solid-liquid interfaces, with a strong emphasis on developing state-of-the-art instrumentation for chemical imaging. A key area of innovation in his group is the integration of scanning ion-conductance microscopy with tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy, enabling nanoscale spectroscopic investigation of delicate interfacial systems in liquid environments. This non-destructive, high-sensitivity analytical tool aims to provide critical insights into soft biological surfaces, catalytic pathways, and heterogeneous electrochemical systems.
Chiang received his B.S. degrees in Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics/Economics from the University of Southern California and a PhD in Applied Physics from Northwestern University. Following his PhD, he completed his postdoctoral training at the University of California, Los Angeles. Beyond his research, Dr. Chiang is deeply committed to STEM education and mentoring, actively participating in initiatives like the ACS Project SEED and the Welch Summer Research Program to build the future scientific workforce.
