HENDRIK OHLDAG received his Diplom (~M.Sc.) and Ph.D. in experimental physics from the University of Duesseldorf, Germany in 1997 and 2002. During this time, he developed methods to characterize magnetic thin films and surfaces using soft x-ray absorption spectroscopy and microscopy. From 1999 to 2002 he was a visiting scientist at the Advanced Light Source (Berkeley) and a Research Assistant at the Stanford Synchrotron Light Source, where he continued as a Postdoctoral Research Associate and Staff Scientist (since 2005). At SSRL he is responsible for the soft x-ray microscopy program.

Dr. Ohldag was the chair of the Users Executive Committee (2008) at the Advanced Light Source, a member of the MIND executive committee (2012-2013) and is currently a member of the executive committee of the Far West Section of the American Physical Society.  Dr. Ohldag has been a member of the organizing committee of 18 different international conferences.
