The technical structure of AVS is organized as a matrix. Members can participate in one or more Divisions or Technical Groups, each of which is focused around a major topical area. Members may also participate in Chapters and Student Chapters, which are regional organizations that focus on local area needs.

AVS Michigan Chapter

Advancing the Science and Technology of Materials, Interfaces, and Processing

The Michigan chapter is the local AVS chapter for the state of Michigan. Members of the Michigan AVS are from academic, and industrial institutions and are engaged in research, applied vacuum technology, and vacuum equipment sales. The chapter sponsors from 2-6 dinner meetings (see calendar) per year, and a one-day Spring Symposium and vacuum equipment exhibition. In addition, the Michigan AVS sponsors a Michigan high school science teacher to attend the Science Educators' Workshop held each year at the AVS International Symposium and Exhibition.
