DESCRIPTION:This webinar provides an introduction to quantum materials and their applications in emerging quantum technologies. The course covers basic concepts of quantum materials, focusing on recent examples from 2D materials --- including graphene, transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), 2D magnets, and 2D insulators such as boron nitride ---  as well as topological materials such as topological insulators/superconductors. Participants will gain an experimental physicist and material scientist's perspective on how these materials exhibit unique quantum properties that make them promising candidates for next-generation quantum devices. The course is structured as a three-part series that progresses from fundamental concepts to practical applications. We will cover general principles of quantum materials and the remarkable properties of 2D/topological quantum materials and their implementation in quantum technologies including quantum emitters, quantum sensors, and superconductor or semiconductor qubits. We will examine current literature and research examples, emphasizing the surface science techniques and other experimental methods used to characterize these materials. By the end of the webinar, attendees will have a comprehensive understanding of how quantum materials could impact future (quantum) technologies and the experimental approaches needed to study and develop these systems.\n\nREGISTER NOW!\n\n Virtual/Online\n\n Heather Korff
