| Gifts and Bequests |
The AVS is a non-profit scientific and educational corporation with a 501(c)(3) tax exempt status. This is the same tax exempt status granted to religious and charitable organizations. Therefore all gifts, donations, bequests, etc. to the AVS are tax deductible if nothing is received in return by the donor from the AVS [i.e., they can be included on IRS Form 1040 Schedule A - Itemized deductions].
In giving funds to the AVS the donor can specify to an extent the disposition of these funds (e.g., general funds, scholarships/awards, student travel, symposium functions, etc.). However the initiation of “named” awards requires the approval of the Trustees and the Board of Directors. Other donations with a specific intent may also require Board of Directors Approval.
